| Description: | Keyboard Warrior is a Max for Live device designed to simplify playability whether using MIDI or QWERTY input. I often found myself in situations where I was without a MIDI device and so was stuck with playing notes using my laptop's keyboard. Ableton maps the middle row of the keyboard as so: the A key plays C, S plays D, D plays E etc. Keyboard Warrior will then play back your notes in the chosen scale. In essence, it is similar to Ableton Live's Scale device but with some important distinctions: • To simplify playability for most scales, only C major need be played into Keyboard Warrior (only the white notes, starting at C). • All of the preset scales are built into the device. I find switching presets using Ableton Live's browser to be uninspiring. Hopefully Keyboard Warrior will help you discover new melodies and chords that you may not otherwise have thought of. • The Root, Scale and Octave Shift controls can all be automated. Again, this is to help you discover new combinations of notes. Finally, if you wish to create your own scales, simply click on the User button and draw them into the grid. Your scales will be saved with the device when you save a preset. Happy playing! |
