Device Overview

Name/Version: looppad 64 MAJOR update 0.98
Author: rbrt23
Description: LOOPPAD 64

..is for those among us who love improvisation and looping and hate editing midi notes, recording to preroll or a predefined tempo..

..is a 64-slot loopstation with the ability to play and edit your recordings directly via OSC or midi,
..it can record from the "outside" or resample the slots you are playing,it doesnt record whats already playing but creates a new loop each time you record
..it has a transport of its own that may be synced to LIVE or
just as well sync LIVE
..has lots of features making it almost a little DAW of its own.

L64 comes with a template for touchOSC which you can get here:http://hexler.net/software/touchosc
YOU HAVE TO use the NEW template with L64 v0.98!

fixes/changes::
-big change on recording-engine,you can choose to
have crossfades between loop end and start, glueing everything nicely together.

-L64 sends and receives messages from external devices now, like this ones:
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/1877/looppad-64-remote
lets you play and control the L64 via Midi

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/1886/looppad-64-modul8
gives you acces to all 64 slots parameters from the outside

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/1885/looppad-64-stepsequencer
is a simple step sequencer for the L64

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/1884/looppad-64-midisend
sends midi from LIVE to the L64

-lots of other changes/fixes

since this is version 0.98 ,there will be more bugs and there is no manual or videos yet.anyway, most UI elements have a description in LIVE`s info-view.

L64 has been developed under windows,so there might be some mac-specific bugs as well.

have fun,rbrt

...i already found 3 bugs!
go post em..

..the 500th downloader will POST A BUG!

666 and counting

So yeah, I really like this patch, and I really want to start using it.

But for that to happen, I'd need to navigate the insides of the patch. That's not going to happen right now, since it's a crazy mess of wires.

Might I request that the next revision of the patch adds no new features, changes nothing but cleans up the patch? So that others can work with it, too?

thanks a bunch.

thank you wetterberg,oh you first commenter!
of course its a crazy bunch of wires, since its just me and myself developing this and its BIG.
but i am in the process of cleaning it up,anyway.after all, theres gonna be
a whole lot of cryptic send/receives instead of the wires...

sooo what exactly do you want to achieve by navigating inside the patch?
maybe i can help you...

cheers,rbrt

Sorry..Don't know if you want bugs posted here, but I will anyway.

1) When attempting to 'write' the default settings I get the rainbow wheel of death and then Ableton crashes.

2) When I hit record for the first time, it's begins recording into a slot, when I hit record again it stops recording into the slot, but the record button stays solid red and I can't record into any other slots. I've tried with both internal and external. I've also tried it as both master and slave. This may be because I don't know what I'm doing...let me know.

I'm running Ableton 9.1 on OSX 10.9.1

hi spillinova..
ups,this sounds like REAL bugs.
i developed this on windows,so i think its mac-bugs.
i will try to check it out on my friends mac...
1)i dont see any reason for this, because its simply a small file thats written to the max/msp directory
2)this really shouldnt happen.

would be happy if you could answer these questions::
-do you have the latest version of max installed?
-are you using touchOSC?
-is your machine 64-bit? (i havent tested it on 64 bits, there might be some
dead serious issues )
-are you working with a diffrent sampling rate than 44.1 or 48 khz?

again @spillinova::
-i just checked on the 64bit,this might be the reason for 1).L64 is using
a so called "third-party-externals",this wont run on 64 bit.
there will be a new version soon without that external.
i even promise i will a tutorial video (;

Thanks for the reply,

I have max 6.1.3 installed
I'm not using touchosc, just your midi to osc module, but I tested with just L64 and a mouse
I'm using 2 64 bit macs, one is a Mac Pro and the other is a MacMini
The mini is set to 44.1 and the Mac Pro is set to 48 khz

Your plugin has enormous potential for live performance, if you can make it stable and practical, I'll be sure to spread the word.
Good work!

..thanks a lot!
so its the 64-bits..
if you feel like commenting on what you find practical and what not,it would help me a lot!
and as i said there will be a new release soon, the recording section should be compatible with 64 bits then since it doesnt use "third-party-externals" anymore.
...aand there will be an integrated MPC-style pattern sequencer.
...aand an external device for the "novation launchpad"
i am currently in the process of trying to clean up the device somewhat,
since its a mess.

I think that one of the most useful things would be to have a Push mode so that L64 would appear to Push as a drum rack. Instead of a 64 grid pad section in which you switch around to each 16 pad corner, make the layout a vertical column in which only 16 pads are available and the user scrolls up and down to select the next or previous set of 16 pads. Basically, exactly like a drum rack works now since Push lets users use the touch strip to scroll through the samples in a drum rack. Also, because Push sees it as a drum rack, that would free up the 16 X 32 grid above the drum section that Push uses for sequencing. Then you could integrate that sequencing section on Push with your MPC style pattern sequencer.
