| Description: | A max for live device which receives cc from the UDO Super Gemini (or Super 8) and sends NRPN to the synth for almost all of the controls available. It seems as though NRPN transmission from the synth isn't available despite what the manual says hence why i've used CC for that side. And there are a few other things that aren't the same as the manual in terms of cc values and some parameter ranges. However, it seems to be generally working ok so far for me. It's very nice to be able to draw in automation for any parameter easily and the random button has been fun too. Recording automation from the synth into Ableton is a little cumbersome because you end up with the raw nrpn cc data being recorded alongside the M4L fader that you want. If you have a midi controller, recording automation works normally if you map controls to that though. Best workaround I have so far is either just go and delete the cc automation after ever record or you set it up using two midi tracks one to feed the midi into the 2nd track and the 2nd track just to record only the automation whilst monitoring the input without it being armed and thus not recording the cc. (you need the Session Record Automation in Ableton preference set to "All tracks" for this to work). You also need to be careful when loading the device onto a midi track when the synth is on already as it can and will likely change a bunch of parameter values on the synth so save your patches first! There are various other limitations like when you load a patch or performance on the synth the on screen faders and switches don't update to match - same as the hardware ones basically. You'll want to turn local off on the synth to avoid midi echos... You might find with a lot of heavy automation the playback starts to lag, you can increase the rate limit time to help with this on the device. I'm sure there's a lot more bugs and things people will struggle with and I can't promise to be able to fix them or give a lot of time to it, I really just made it for myself, but I thought why not share it even if it's not perfect it's better than what's out there currently (nothing). |
